After graduating from Michaelis School for Fine Art, UCT in 2010, I sampled a number of creative industries including film and illustration, before taking up my first studio to pursue a career in art. From there I opened the first African branch of Dr Sketchy’s (part of an international brand of burlesque life drawing events). It was also at this time that I crossed paths with renowned South African printmaker Judy Woodborne, under whose mentorship I have been honing my skills as a printmaker in the time since.
As a member of Woodborne’s Intaglio studio I’ve offered printmaking classes and workshops, as well as the occasional demonstration. I’ve also worked with a number of artists to produce fine art prints, and have assisted in the production of printed editions for a number of artists including Faith47, Sophie Peters, Paul Painting, Pierre le Riche and Johan Louw Stegmann. My own prints have been accepted into a number of International Printmaking Biennales, where one such submission was selected for further exhibition in Harlem, NYC. Another is now in the collection of the Muzeum Miasta Ostrowa Wielkopolskiego, Poland.
I’ve taken part in numerous group exhibitions both locally and abroad, and opened my debut solo show as part of the Visual Arts Program for the University of Stellenbosch Woordfees (Literary Festival) in March 2018.
My work is often experimental, both in medium and style, and it is often the idea or the subject matter that determines my approach to form and medium. I have worked largely with traditional printmaking, however I find myself drawn to sculptural form, and have often exhibited three-dimensional and mixed media work, most recently exploring the possibilities working sculpturally with print.
